What is the Private California Marriage License?
The "private" California marriage license is called a
confidential marriage license. A couple can be married
with this license if they want to keep their marriage
private. They will not be required to have a witness sign
the marriage license.

The Public California Marriage License is issued by your
local County Clerk Registrar-Recorder. It is a public
document recorded in the California vital record.
